Fabric has always been my weakness. My store is full of them. Scraps of different colours, prints and weaves, blouse pieces from sarees, excess yardage from upholstery and kurtas, lace and denim, I even saved remnants of old clothes if I liked the fabric! I had never really given them a second thought other than trying to sew a patchwork quilt once! It’s not until I stumbled across a brilliant traditional African fabric necklace on the internet that I actually got inspired to do a jewellery collection.
The techniques in which you can use fabric to construct jewellery are limitless. I picked a particularly difficult one (coils and tubes) for this project. (I later promised myself to never try this again!) Anyway, it’s finally done and they look amazing! I don’t want to go into the details of the process but it’s been challenging and labour intensive. So, here are the finished pieces.
I asked a friend to model them for me and she obliged. What would I do without such supportive friends? We had an amazing time during the shoot and there was also quite a bit of drinking and eating later on!
